My service learning site is the Tanzania Gender Networking Programme. Established formally in 1993, the coalition seeks to create gender equality and promote social justice in Tanzania. One of it’s biggest pushes is over land reform across Tanzania. Mainly, because inheritance of land it’s patrilineal it leaves many women excluded from land ownership, decision making, and land tenure as well. Leaving many women throughout rural Tanzania without an income. The TGNP seeks to provide equality to women through knowledge building, advocacy, and activism. I’m incredibly thrilled to be joining in this seriously important work in Tanzania. I plan on learning from the incredible women and men in this organization and applying the principles of the feminist framework to life in Dar as well as STL etc.
I just started this past Tuesday so there will be more to come as I continue with orientation and meeting with department heads to see where I can best support the organization and the needs of the grassroots women as well.
